The tool lets you zoom in and mark up small features or zoom out to annotate larger features. Notes stay in place as you pan and zoom the image. Annotations are represented by markers that you can drag and re-size with the mouse.

The Image Tool has been used with high resolution images as large as three gigabytes. Only image data in the visible area and at the visible resolution is downloaded to the viewer. Such images are usually 40 to 50kb and download very quickly.
Like all Project Pad annotation tools, if several users are viewing the same document and one makes a change, everyone will see the change without re-loading the page. This can be used to let several students or a student and instructor work together online.
The tool can be used with the built-in Project-Pad image server or, for higher performance, with a commercial image server.
